I received a request today from my friends at JUSTLABELIT.ORG asking me to sign a petition and forward a letter to as many people as possible regarding the fact that we currently do not know if we are consuming a genetically engineered product in the United States.  The request is not huge, it is simply a request for a label to be placed on the product stating the food has been genetically engineered,  also known as GE.  Something that the big corporations and factory farming monsters are totally against.  This has been done via a legal petition, Docket # FDA-2011-P-0723-0001/CP and filed directly with the FDA.

By taking this action you are impacting the decision making process at the FDA and will be benefiting not only yourself, but your family, friends, and the planet.

They are killing us with the things they are adding to food already, who knows what genetically altering the food supply may do to us down the road.  These “farmers”  are already guilty of  devastating the planet with the “farming” practices being employed today and it is all in the name of greed.  This shortsighted, uncaring methodology, which we as taxpayers are paying for through agricultural subsidies has to be stopped.  We have the right to not only know about what is being done to our food and our planet, we have the right to have a say in what is being done.  We are both the consumer AND the investor.  It is time we use our collective voice to stand up for our rights.

These negligent practices remind me of a Cree Indian prophecy, which is one of my favorite sayings of all time (and can be purchased on a tee, coffee cup, noted cards etc. at my cafepress store which can be found on the bottom of the site ) :

                Only after the last tree has been cut down;

                Only after the last river has been poisoned;

                Only after the last fish has been caught; 

                Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.

Below is their letter, please feel free to copy and paste it and send it to your friends or direct them here for a copy and paste.  It is imperative that we get the word out and demand our right to know what is being put in our food supply!

Dear friend,
I was surprised to learn that the United States is one of the only developed nations not to require the labeling of genetically engineered foods. Even China and Russia label them! Don’t you think we have a right to know what’s in our food?
It’s estimated that 60%-70% of processed foods likely contain some genetically engineered material. Plus over 80% of corn and soybeans grown in the U.S. are genetically engineered. Not to mention that the majority of the livestock that Americans consume have been raised on genetically engineered grains. But without labels, we’d never know. 
As consumers, I think we have a right to know how the food we buy is produced, including whether it’s genetically modified. Otherwise, we can’t make informed choices about what’s best for us and our families.
That’s why I submitted a comment to the FDA demanding that genetically engineered foods be labeled. And with just a few clicks, you can join me! Will you tell the FDA that you support mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods too?
Please, click on that link and contact the FDA today. They need to hear from more people demanding our rights to be informed.
