Will someone please explain to me why everyone is not on board with demanding the change that OWS stands for?

The more I read and listen and watch news (or pseudo news, really is more of a reasonable name) the more outrageous I find it that these people are not outraged by the news they are reporting.  Corruption at every level of Government, bankers  operating like drunken frat boys on a first trip to Vegas who have yet to be disciplined in  ANY way for their crimes.  Perhaps I can justify this somewhat by thinking they are forced to “tow the company line”, I understand big networks are not going to allow their personnel to speak freely.

What I just do not get are the people who post their opinions on news articles, blogs and websites making derogatory statements about the protesters and their passion for this cause.  I have to ask them, are you OK with

1-NONE of the banking executives that caused the financial crisis in the US being prosecuted?  The very crisis that “We the People” paid for?  (check it out at http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/26/business/economy/26nocera.html?pagewant ) OH, and the American Bankers Association has already started spending those $$$’s to get rid of OWS and get the most ABA friendly candidates lined up for 2012, the memo was leaked to the press.  (Read all about it at http://upwithchrishayes.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/11/19/8896362-exclusive-lobbying-firms-memo-spells-out-plan-to-undermine-occupy-wall-street-video#.TtGlxoPuONY.twitter )

2-TWO sets of laws?  One for the 1% and Congress and one for the rest of us?  (See above & check it out at http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18560_162-57323221/congress-insiders-above-the-law/ )

3-Corporations, those entities which were granted personhood and so many jump to their defense, are not acting with conscience as good member of our society.  They are acting only in the interest of their Executives  and the Share-Holders.  To Hell with the workers and the economy!  (check it out at http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/money/52979921-79/billion-share-company-stock.html.csp?page=1)

4-Your rights are being taken away, slowly, secretly, behind closed doors, without fanfare.  The new Gestapo aka Homeland Security is strategically making moves without our knowledge to take our freedom!  Not just mine, not just Democrats, EVERYONE is subject to this if this law passes. (http://www.aclu.org/blog/national-security/senators-demand-military-lock-american-citizens-battlefield-they-define-being)

The bottom line is that CORRUPT politicians are allowing liars and cheaters to steal from us via our tax dollars.  They are allowing them to break laws with no repercussions.  They are allowing them give our  jobs away to help these cheaters.  They are taking away our rights one by one.  If we do not act now, America will be the next Third World country

Please, hear my words, this is not about Republicans or Democrats.  This is not about Liberal or Conservative agendas.  This is just plain old right and wrong!

Psalms 82:2-5

2-How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked?  Selah.  3-Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.  4-Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.  5-They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

I just don’t get it…

I have been reading in the papers and listening to the news and keep hearing a recurring theme, what do “these people” want?  The talking heads go on to say there is no unified message, there is no leadership, there is nothing but a bunch of people whining about not having jobs, or not earning enough money, or having too much debt, etc.,  etc., etc.

My question to them is, where have you been?  Who are you listening to?  I have seen numerous times when the press interviewed protesters and they told them succinctly what their beef was.  But for the record, once again, let me just list a few of them here:

1.  Conduct a real investigation of the economic/financial meltdown and actually prosecute the wrongdoers and have them pay restitution.

2.  Reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act; if additional regulation is needed enact it.  Rules are NOT a bad thing.

3.  The distribution of tax burden needs to be fair, people making over $1million per year pay on average 90% less than the rest of the nation; the tax cuts for the wealthiest of Americans needs to go away, nothing is trickling down; Corporate Personhood needs to be revoked, they are not an actual living and breathing entity.

There are others that worthwhile, but these are the main three that I have heard when OWS protesters are interviewed.  I understand that a full list of what would be desired by OWS  is being drafted and will be presented in the upcoming weeks.  I pray that it will be welcomed for what it is, a needed change.

Why FDR’s 2nd Bill of Rights is needed more today than ever before!!

For those who are not familiar, FDR,  in his 1944 State of the Union Address laid the groundwork for a second bill of rights for the citizens of the United States.  Here is an excerpt from that speech that calls out the rights he wanted to enact into law for us.

We have come to a clear realization of the fact that true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. Necessitous men are not free men. People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.

In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all – regardless of station, race, or creed. Among these are:

Opportunity
  • The right to a useful and remunerative job…
  • The right to a good education.
  • The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies

Security

  • The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment.
  • The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health.
  • The right of every family to a decent home.
  • The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation.
Now, I am sure that many of you, as do I, wonder why on earth would we have not completed making these fabulous ideas into law?  Well, even back then the same forces were at play as are today.  Obviously, the right wing agenda really haven’t changed over the years, and yes, it always boils down to the preservation and growth of their wealth.
You may ask, how can ensuring good jobs, great education, healthcare, decent homes, food adequate food and clothing have anything to do with jeopardizing the wealth of the 1%?  Well, as FDR said on many occasions ‘Necessitous Men are not Free Men’.
How that translates into jeopardizing their wealth is that people who have been educated and don’t have to spend every spare moment scraping by a living so they can feed, clothe and put a roof over the heads of their families will have enough time or energy on their hands to be politically active.  EEEGADS, commoners being politically active?  Actually having the time and energy to pay attention to what the “elected” officials are doing?  That could put a serious cramp in the lifestyles of a lot of people.
However, if we are all running ourselves ragged, just trying to survive, we barely have time to spend with our families and friends let alone pay attention to what is happening in politics.  Most make their decisions based on the evening news, a few sound bytes and the occasional television show or debate spectacle.  (Dear God help us).   How does that ultimately work out?  It leaves politics and the running of the country, and the world, to those people of means.  The ones that have been running things forever and fully intend on continuing to run things forever.  And they are doing it via economic enslavement.  And mark my words, it WILL continue.  That is, unless WE do something about it.

We thought we had come a long way baby…

How am I going to tie the Big Lebowski and OWS together?

Good question?  How am I going to do that?

Well here goes!  The Dude is laying in bed telling Maude Lebowski (Julianne Moore) about himself.  He says he was one of the authors of  ‘The Port Huron Statement’.  Well, for those of you who did not pay attention in school (much like me) that is a real document my friends.  One that if read today turns out to be pretty damn relative still.  Thus I have decided to quote select portions of the document:

…..And if these anxieties produce a developed indifference to human affairs, do they not as well produce a yearning to believe there is an alternative to the present, that something can be done to change circumstances in the school, the workplaces, the bureaucracies, the government?  It is to this latter yearning, at once the spark and engine of change, that we direct our present appeal.  The search for truly democratic alternatives to the present and a commitment to social experimentation with them, is a worth and fulfilling human enterprise, one which moves us and, we hope, others today.  On such a basis do we offer this document of our convictions and analysis:  as an effort in understanding and changing the conditions of humanity in the late twentieth century, an effort rooted in the ancient, still unfulfilled conception of man attaining determining influence over his circumstances.”

Men have unrealized potential for self-cultivation, self-direction, self-understanding, and creativity.  It is this potential that we regard as crucial and to which we appeal, not to the human potential for violence, unreason, and submission to authority.  The goal of man and society should be human independence: a concern not with image of popularity but with finding a meaning in life that is personally authentic; a quality of mind not completely driven by a sense of powerlessness, nor one which unthinkingly adopts status values, nor one which represses all threats to its habits, but one which has full, spontaneous access to present and past experiences; one which easily unites the fragmented parts of personal history; one which openly faces problems which are troubling and unresolved; one with an intuitive awareness of possibilities, an active sense of curiosity, an ability and willingness to learn.

This kind of independence does not mean egotistic individualism—the object is not to have one’s way so much as it is to have a way that is one’s own.  Nor do we deify man—we merely have faith in his potential.

Human relationships should involve fraternity and honesty.  Human interdependence is contemporary fact; human brotherhood must be willed, however, as a condition of future survival and as the most appropriate form of social relations….

As a social system we seek the establishment of a democracy of individual participation, governed by two central aims:  that the individual share in those social decisions determining the quality and direction of his life; that society be organized to encourage independence in men and provide the media for their common participation.

In a participatory democracy, the political life would be based on several root principles:

•  that decision-making of basic social consequence be carried on by public groupings;

•  that politics be seen positively, as the art of collectively creating an acceptable pattern of social relations….

Like the political and economic ones, major social institutions—cultural, educative, rehabilitative, and others—should be generally organized with the well-being and dignity of man as the essential measure of success.

In social change or interchange, we find violence to be abhorrent….  It is imperative that the means of violence be abolished and the institutions—local, national, international—that encourage non-violence as a condition of conflict be developed.

These are our central values, in skeletal form.  It remains vital to understand their denial or attainment in the context of the modern world.

I urge everyone to read the whole thing.  And sure, before you start throwing stones saying that it has no relevance today because African Americans have equal rights now or the symbols that are referenced are outdated, stop and realize, you could easily to swap those symbol references with current ones and update that statement about why all men are not created equal and “POOF” that document becomes a current statement for 2011.

Then you see OWS as the catalyst for a new age of Americans to take to the streets and demand that the right things be done ala the 60’s.  As I recall those most popular movements and their protests were for African American Civil Rights, Women’s Liberation, against the Vietnam War, for Gay Rights and to protect the Environment.   (Shit, looks like 50 years later we are still fighting almost all of the same fights, guess that’s what complacency gets ya, a hell of a lot of lost ground – but all of this is excellent fodder for additional posts!!).

So, let us recap, Civil Rights are basically our individual rights to live  without  infringement from Government & Private Organizations.

Now, I know no one would argue that the criminal behaviors and illegal schemes that have lead to the economic and financial meltdown not only in the US but Globally and have resulted in force US tax payer  bailouts and have plunged the world into a depression are a primary source of the OWS protests.  I will take that one step further, and add I would think I am not going too far out on a limb, to say that our Government and the Banking Industry were in collusion to steal billions of dollars from the American people with their “too big to fail” philosophy.  Granted, the failure would have been catastrophic, however REGULATION (which apparently is the Holy Water and garlic to the Right Wing vampire) would have prevented that in the first place.  But I digress.  What they have done in essence is one fell swoop, neatly and cleanly eliminated the middle class and economically enslaved the 99%.  Bottom line my friends, that  is an infringement on our Civil Rights.

So, when you are asked, for all means and purposes, OWS is fighting for our Civil Rights in 2011 against Economic Enslavement.

Additionally, I found while watching the news this week that the words in the Port Huron Statement resonate, because we do not have a true participatory democracy in America.  Day by day, week by week, we are being shown how little power “we the people” actually have and how much power the 1% truly wield.

Nothing demonstrates better how the 1% are using their power and influence than the efforts to prevent demonstrators from occupying the areas in the different cities via the police, the media’s tilted focus on a small handful of non-peaceful incidents and the different City Officials conducting midnight raids to clear out the encampments.  It all smacks of corruption.

I think it is necessary to remind these folks that  the 1st Amendment protects our rights, specifically freedom of assembly and the freedom of association.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

What is being said is that it’s time for the playing field to be leveled.  There are so many issues to be dealt with, there is not a politician to be found that is trustworthy to lead us, the entire political system is broken, corruption runs rampant, priorities are totally askew, money is the only thing that speaks in our Government.  Whoever can pay our elected officials the most is who is going to be running the country.

And this is why they don’t get it!!  Absolute power corrupts absolutely.  And that power has been bought and paid for with our tax dollars which have been GIVEN to the 1% on a silver platter.

So here are, we the people are downtrodden, we are trying to just survive these days!

Everywhere you turn the media sits there asking what does OWS stand for, what do they want?  Right wing talking heads go on about OWS needing to organize and come back with an agenda.  Our GOP led Congress in the meantime continues to sell us out.

The US Government and especially Congress need to WAKE-UP!  This is the first REAL effort by the American people since the 60’s to assemble and affect change that is desperately needed in our country.

I pray to God that the more the 1% owned establishment pushes these brave men & women the more it enforces their resolve to stand strong, maintain their cool and stand in peaceful protest.

God, I wish I was younger and in better health.  I would be out there with you.  Know that I stand in solidarity with you brothers and sisters!

To quote Walter Sobchak (John Goodman) Hey, Wall Street “This is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass!”

Stand Strong!!

Boycott the Kardashians!! Americans are way better than this trash on television!

I kind of hate to have this be the first thing I write about here, but I see that it is getting a whole lot of play everywhere so, I am going to say what I know everyone else is probably thinking.

1-why are these people news?  There are far more important things going on in the world.

2-this spectacle that E calls a television show is nothing but a display of vulgarity, excess, greed, promiscuity, co-dependency, enabling abuse and addiction, disrespect for parents & spouses, disrespect for the sanctity of family and overall an exercise in extremely poor taste!

3-the fact that this family is capitalizing on Kim making a sex tape with a B (OK, really C) level celebrity and having that made public in order to gain some modicum of fame is purely nauseating.  The idea that she more than likely planned the whole thing goes to show you what kind of person she is.  And that wedding fiasco?  Really?   Is anyone surprised?

4-the only person in that entire family that had talent is Bruce Jenner and their dear departed father Robert.  Bruce was an amazing athlete once upon a time.  And Robert, well everyone knows about the OJ debacle.

5-The idea that the daughters are trying to pass themselves off as designers is laughable at best, they are hacks, doing nothing than copying high end designers and trying to pass it off as original.  They should belly up to the bar and just admit that they do not have original ideas.  Here are a couple of links from subscriptions I get that pointed out their thievery

http://www.thedailybeast.com/galleries/2011/10/11/how-kim-kardashian-copied-paris-hilton-lady-gaga-more-photos.html

5-These people represent everything the rest of the world thinks are the worst aspects Americans, and they are RIGHT.  Why on earth would we want to broadcast these people to the universe?

It is shameful that they are being celebrated the way that they are, they are a terrible example for our children.  Whoever dreamed that garbage up (Ryan Seacrest) should be shot.

Come on people, we are way better than this trash.  Join me and the other 80,000  (so far) people who have signed the petition to get rid of this garbage on TV.

and here we go……

I decided, in my ever growing world of blogging that I needed to add an outlet for what my husband would now call “evil Becky”.  The girl I used to be a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.  Where I had an opinion and would speak it.  It may not be popular with everyone, but I think it has merit, and I think when understood is usually pretty rational and logical. So, I am happy to say that I am going to transfer my energies here, away from alot of folks that don’t seem to really appreciate what I have to say and do not want to engage in constructive debate.  Hopefully here, I can verbalize the thoughts racing through my mind about what I see happening to our once great country and maybe, just maybe, make a difference. Or, I can just go through the motions of writing my thoughts for no one.  Either way, it will get them out of my head.
